Final Blogger Assessment

Throughout this book there is alot of changes in Pattie's life. From a small town to the world. From being a young teen to a younger mother. Not everything that happens is good but there are always struggles that you will hit in life but they do get better. Pattie has learned from experience that a change can be for the good or the bad but you won't know until you make that change.

Alot of you may think that being famous is all about the glitz and the glam. But for Pattie and Justin, it was a huge change for them. They went from living in a small apartment in a tiny town in Canada to everyone in the world knowing who they are. Pattie went from being a normal teenager to being a young mom in a matter of months. At the time a change may seem bad but as life goes on that change will impact you in a huge way.

In the book Pattie says "How the heck did we get here? I wondered. How did this happen?" This is Pattie's way of saying, that everything can change in a matter of seconds. Some changes are as big as Pattie's situation but even something like hanging out with your friends instead of staying home can change your life somehow, you just don't know it yet.

Blogger Assessment
1) In the post above I tend to use my voice alot. My type of voice is very formal and not at all like most people. Some words that show that this is my voice are words like 'glitz' and 'glam'. There are sentences that show my voice alot too. Some examples are "From a small town to the world." This sentences may just seem like a normal sentence but it is like alot of my writing. I use alot of analogies because I feel like they can really add voice and meaning to the piece of writing.

2) I used a variety of sentence lengths to make sure it didn't sound like a run on sentence. An example  of my sentence length having a variety is "From a small town to the world. From being a young teen to a younger mother. Not everything that happens is good but there are always struggles that you will hit in life but they do get better." I use three different sentence lengths to add emphasize to those sentences. As for diction, I tend to use an elevated diction because I try to make my post sound somewhat formal. An example of this is "At the time a change may seem bad but as life goes on that change will impact you in a huge way." This sentence has a lot of meaning behind it causing it to sound more formal.

Review

This week I finished the book, Nowhere But Up. This is by far one of my favorite books that I have read so far. Pattie is such an inspirational person and her book inspires me to inspire people.  She makes it seem so easy to get through hard times, which is why I love this book even more. She is telling young girls that it may seem hard in the moment but in the end you do get through those hard times.
Even though Pattie is only in her mid thirties, she has been through so much already. Her son is one of the most famous people alive right now, yet she still tries to live a normal life and inspire people everyday. She travels with Justin to third world countries to build schools for kids. She even goes to places like women's prisons to talk to the women there and to hear there story. She cares about people that she hardly knows and that is truly amazing. I recommend this book to people who want to be inspired or just want to hear an inspirational story. I rate this book a 10 out of 10, and I wouldn't mind reading other books by her.

Voice Post

In Nowhere but Up Pattie uses her voice to show that things do get better. She talks about how she had struggles in her lifetime but they have gotten better. She is trying to tell teenage girls that things do get better. She travels places to tell people here story and how she got over her depression and suicidal thoughts. Still to this day Pattie travels around trying to help teens and young women with depression and things that they are going through. She is trying to get her story out there as much as she can, but she doesn't want people to feel bad for her she wants them to know that things get better even when you are in your hardest times.

Now that Pattie is very well known for being Justin Bieber's mom, it is easier for her to share her story with people. She goes around to well known cities and does book signings for fans who have been inspired by her story. Many girls have found Patties book inspiring because of how she uses her story to relate to what some girls are going through now. Depression isn't a joke, she likes to show people that things can change and the will get better. Because Pattie used her voice, she inspired thousands of girls.

Character: Pattie

Pattie started out as a depressed young teenager. She had been through so much! From sexual abuse to drug abuse, from depression to suicide. She has had a long journey to get to where she is now. It's hard to go through things like that especially at the age of 5 and older. Things got even worse when she got pregnant at the age of 18. To her it felt like her world was falling apart, until she got into her faith more. God made her feel like things can get better no matter what you are going through. She felt that when Justin became famous that she was going to share her story more.

When Pattie was about 34, Justin's career was just at its peak, but she felt like it was her turn to give back. While Justin was on tour Pattie would travel around with a Pastor to places where women would stay for rehab, shelter, or just to feel safe, and tell them her story. One thing she would not tell them was that she was Justin Bieber's mom. She didn't want those women to think of her any different just because she is Justin Bieber's mom, she feels like everyone is equal  and th that people shouldn't have to go through things like this. She wanted those women to think of her as a regular women just like them. Pattie has been so inspirational to so many people around the world even though she may still be a little depressed she doesn't show it.

Theme post

Pattie's theme for the book would be sense of self . In the whole biography Pattie is trying to find her self. she goes through many rehabs, church groups, and friends just to find who she really is as a person. In the book Justin (Pattie's son) says "Many women who have gone through similar experiences need a little bit of hope- to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel" (pg. 10). Justin knows that his mom has gone through a lot and everyone should never give up because everything will get better. Even though Pattie doesn't say this, Justin was born when Pattie was young so he knows what she has had to go through. Some may think that when Justin gets signed, that everything will get better but they are wrong.

When Pattie and Justin finally move to Atlanta, it is everything but perfect for Pattie. Pattie is stuck trying to figure out which church to go to or who to be friends with. During the beginning of Pattie's move she started to slip into depression again, until she finally found people that made her feel like she belonged. In Pattie's book she says "I had moments of relief when I was encouraged by a message, an old friends heart-felt prayer, or feeling the familiar presence of God I hadn't experienced in a while. Over time, inch by inch, the darkness began to lift" (pg. 425). In this section of the story Pattie is saying that she is happy because she has finally surrounded herself by the right people. To this day Pattie still struggles with the feeling of being alone but she knows that she has wonderful people in her life to keep her grounded.

Nowhere But Up: Jeremy

A minor character in the text is Jeremy Bieber. Jeremy is Pattie's on-and-off boyfriend throughout her teenage years. Even through Pattie's hard times jeremy was somewhat there to help her. Sometimes during there relationship Jeremy becamje a severe alcoholic. He would never hurt Pattie but he would verbally hurt her. When Pattie got pregnant, Jeremy left because he couldn't handle the responbility.

When pattie had Justin she felt that jeremy should be in Justin's life.  For Justin's first year, Jeremy wass in a relationship with Pattie. They were actually planning on getting married until the relationship ended in a really bad fight. Even though Jeremy and Patttie were never really together, they still had a pretty good relationship once jeremy had realized everything he had done to hurt so many people. Ever since then Jeremy has been in Justins life. Later in Justins life Jeremy married a women named Erin and they had 2 kids together, Jaxon and Jazmyn. Justin has an amazing relationship with Jaxon and Jazmyn even though they are his half-brother/sister.  Even though Justin is always traveling, whatever time he gets to see his family, he will take it.

Why Nowhere But Up?

I was hesitant at first to read Nowhere But Up. I didn't know much of what the book would be about. All I knew was that the book was about a women named Pattie Mallette and her son Justin Bieber. Then one of my friends said that she read it and that it was amazing. Her and I both love Justin Bieber so I trusted her opinion of the book. After I started reading the book I couldn't stop!

I'm so glad that I read it because there is so much to learn from the book. I love that people could somewhat relate to Pattie because in alot of books it may be hard to find connections with the book. I feel like she is a strong women and i'm glad that now I know her story and what she had to go through. It's amazing to know that someone who had so little has the biggest heart. In this article Pattie gets personal with some of justins fans. she talks about how she is still dealing with depression to this day.
